Welcome to Spring Term 2012.
I'm teaching Math 60, Math 95, and Math 243 this term.
Again, if you have NEVER been on this blog, PLEASE read the "First Post" for instructions.
And please identify yourself completely ... if only by class and section number or CRN. Otherwise, I may not be able to answer your question promptly or completely.
Have a great term.

ReplyDeleteDid you get the email? I only ask because it has to be summitted by 5 pm tomorrow.
Thanks

Barry, this is Matthew Corbin, I emailed you on Thursday afternoon and have not gotten a response back from you yet. This concerned me, and I know you may be busy but I have been having issues getting a hold of my professors this term using their pcc emails and they will bounce back to me anywhere from 4-7 days later saying it was underliverable, I knew we had to turn in our assignment so I am guessing I am just sol for that one, I can give it to you tuesday for 1/2 credit maybe I don't know how you work your late work or even if you do. But more concerning I wanted to know the chapters you went over so that I could try and muddle through it and asked if we had anything due Tuesday. I totally forgot about the blog up until now.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Matthew Corbin MTH 95
Matthew,
DeleteCheck your campus email.
I was out of town at a union convention this weekend and just caught up with my campus email as you posted this message.
I guess great minds think alike ...
Hey Barry,

ReplyDeletei cant remember the formula for revenue. what is it? i think you told us but i didnt write it down. help please!?
Revenue is selling price times quantity sold.
ReplyDeletethankssss!!!
Deletewait. im workin with cost and time you work im confused. im not sure how to set this problem up. i cant figure out the next step. its number four on the quiz. its givin me awful trouble. been workin on this problem for two hours! canot figure out how to set up revenue formula. it doesnt make sense what does cost have to do with weeks worked and time if im looking for price and quantity sold?
DeletePrice is what you charge per hour and quantity sold is the number of hours you worked.
ReplyDeleteMth 95. For all those struggling with question #4 on the quiz: Cost must equal Revenue. C = R. Once you have the Revenue function figured out write it as such. The Cost Function = The Revenue Function.
ReplyDeleteIt is not appropriate for students to offer help to other students on a quiz.
ReplyDeleteOops! Very sorry Barry, I thought it'd be okay if I didn't give away the answer/math to the problem.
ReplyDeleteHi barry, It's allison howbert. I was just checking to see if you recieved my email. I wasn't sure if you said you always check it or not! Then i remembered you had a blog. Quite convient!
ReplyDeleteFrom,
Allison Howbert
Hi Barry, Could you post the team exercise on line. I finished it, but it looks like ancient greek without the elegance and I need to rewrite it. Thank you!!!! Oh, this is Tannya from math 60.
ReplyDeleteHey Math 95 Tues/Thurs class any chance anyone could let me know what chapters we covered this week so I can catch up with you guys? Thanks.

Hello Barry,
ReplyDeleteIt is Robert Straker from your math 95 Tues / Thur class. On your Tuesday Math 95 Today notes, you said we would have a test next Thur on (3.5 to 6.2). Then on your Thursday Math 95 Today notes you said we would have a test next Thur on (3.5 to 5.7). I am now confused. Do I need to study up to 6.2, or just up to 5.7? May I please get a clarification. Thank you much, Robert.
Robert, for your class, I decided to limit the quiz to 5.7.
ReplyDeleteHello Barry,
ReplyDeleteThank you for limiting the quiz to 5.7. I could not have come at better time. My mother went into the hospital Thursday evening for tests. The results came back as a failing gall bladder. She is now in surgery. I hope she makes it as she is 80. Anyway, it gives me less stress and I can concentrate on those few areas to hopefully do well on the quiz. I am also filling up a sheet of paper with helpful notes. I will contact you if I run into problems. Thanks, Robert - Math 95 Tues / Thurs class.
Hello Barry,
ReplyDeleteIt's Robert from your math 95 Tues/Thurs class.
I am studying for my Monday morning math 95 quiz. I wanted to ask you if the notesheet could be both sides, or is it only supposed to be one just side? Thanks, Robert.
Two sided is fine
ReplyDeleteGood evening Barry,
ReplyDeleteRobert from your math 95 Tu/Th class. Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your math classes at S.E. Center. I hope the illness is nothing serious. My note sheet is filled with notes (both sides), but the testing center requests I double check the size 11x17 with you. We discussed it after class last week and because of test anxiety you did OK it. If I can get a reply from you, I can show the reply to the Proctor and then I am good to go. Thank you.
All note sheet are double-sided 8.5" by 11" (letter sized).
ReplyDeleteHello Barry,
ReplyDeleteCan I get an appointment to see you before the math 95 class today (Tuesday)? I can be there between 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Thanks, Robert.
Just come on in.
ReplyDeleteHello Barry,
ReplyDeleteI have sent you an important message to your PCC e-mail. If you could read it and respond soon that would be great. Thank you. Robert, MTH 95 student.

ReplyDeleteQuestion regarding the take home quiz for Math95 the Tues/Thursday class. Problem 4 b) is it best to watch out for the rad sign that is only over the x in the 3over x+2. Thanks, Tamara
Yes, think "conjugate".
ReplyDeleteHello Barry,
ReplyDeletePlease check your PCC e-mail for a question about take home quiz. Thanks, Robert.
Hello Barry,
ReplyDeletePlease check your pcc e-mail for a message from me. thanks, Robert.
Barry,
ReplyDeleteWe are doing out project and the linear regression formalua we got is y=52.113x + -390.571 and when we enter a number in for X example: 385 we should be getting the corresponding Y value and we are getting a different number.. Did we do something wrong?

ReplyDeleteIf its just off some, remember your equation is for predicting ... you won't generally get exactly the true corresponding y-value.
If its way way off, that indicates a weak linear relationship of a mistake in calculating the equation. You would have to figure out what went wrong.
Barry, this is charley from stat divas can you send me my test grade :) Charlene_gilbert91@yahoo.com
DeleteHi Barry,
ReplyDeleteThis is Tricia Estores from MTH243. I emailed you (edwardsb@mhcc.edu) our written report for the data presentation project. Could you please give me feedback as to whether or not there is anything else I might have missed. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHello Barry,
ReplyDeleteI have sent two e-mails to you on your PCC e-mail address, but have not received a reply. I really need to get back my Math 95 papers from you so that I can study them to get ready for math 111 this fall. Since you have not yet sent them, I am considering coming to Cascade Campus on Wednesday 7-25-12 to pick them up. Please reply, Robert Straker, Math 95 spring term student.
